Dents Leather Goods

The history of Dents can be traced back to 1777, when John Dent established his accessory company manufacturing fine leather gloves in Worcester, England.

The company continued to grow under the guidance of Dent's two sons, John and William, and by 1833 Dents was employing 133 craftsmen and craftswomen at its factories in Worcester and London, engaged in hand cutting and stitching, a unique skill still practised today.

From its earliest days the company was an active exporter, successfully selling to the finest shops and stores in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. The skill and craftsmanship which underpin Dents' worldwide reputation are still very much in evidence, and today the company continues to exercise that care and attention to detail which has been its hallmark since 1777. Although primarily famous for the crafting of fine leather gloves, Dents has always been involved with the design and manufacture of fine accessories. Today the Dents Collection includes gloves, belts, handbags, hats, scarves, serapes and small leather goods for men and women.

The Heritage Collection was first shown to the world's leading fashion buyers in New York, London, Tokyo and Florence.

The ethos of the collection is to create a range of accessories and gifts that are the finest examples of British craftsmanship and contemporary design, all made in England from luxury materials for today's discerning customer.

Corby of Windsor - Trouser Presses since 1930

Corby is an iconic brand of Britain, starting life as John Corby Limited in England in 1930 as a manufacturer of valet stands. Later improvements included the addition of a pressing area and the first Corby trouser press was launched. These subsequently became electrically heated during the 1960's, and the Corby Trouser Press we know and love today was born.

Corby of Windsor continues to make our trouser presses, and many other products, at our UK headquarters in Huddersfield. It is our intention to support the British manufacturing industry whilst ensuring high standards of craftsmanship and quality are always adhered to.

Our objective is to ensure consumers receive both impeccable quality and good value whilst positively contributing to the economy and society

Rega Research Ltd - Turntables & HIFI

Excellent build quality, reliability and ease of use combine to make a product which will offer a lifetime of musical enjoyment. Omitting all the usual gimmicks allows us to concentrate the manufacturing costs on the high quality parts necessary to reproduce records accurately.

Using a manual speed change rather than an automatic mechanism, eliminates speed inconsistencies and reduces wear of the drive belt. The money we save is spent across the design including a new hand assembled RB101 tonearm, precision main bearing, phenolic resin platter and a high quality low vibration motor which would normally be used on a turntable costing two or three times the amount.

The minimalist design of the Rega RP1 and the use of extremely high quality components ensure that this turntable will last for many years. The RP1 is the first in a new generation of Rega turntables offering far greater performance than their predecessors.

We are confident the performance of this amazing new product will impress you. Rest assured the only thing entry level about the RP1 is the price !

Kudos loudspeakers

The Kudos range of loudspeakers are designed with the overriding principle of allowing our customers to enjoy their music as much as possible, with the best engineered product at a given price point. A simple statement to make, but one which involves a lot of hard work to achieve, especially as we are our own worst critics and never release a product until we are fully satisfied with it.

A great many of the hi-fi loudspeakers on the market today utilise mass-produced components and styling techniques to make them appear more impressive and to hit key price points. This has unfortunately become a common practise and can lead to quality and consistency issues, severely compromising the end product. Instead, we at Kudos use traditional well-proven engineering techniques, the highest quality components, and the time-honoured method of voicing our loudspeaker by ear to produce inspiring results.

Some may wonder why not use a more complex solution but we prefer to follow an old an well proven piece of advice put forward by a Franciscan Friar and logician, William of Occam - entia non sunt multiplicanda praeter necessitatem. This statement is often known as “Occam’s Razor” and translates as “entities must not be multiplied beyond necessity” – we take this to mean “keep it as simple as can be, but do it as well as you can”.

Harbeth Loudspeakers

Our Harbeth factory is located in Lindfield, near Haywards Heath, in West Sussex (south of London), England is a mediaeval village with a unique range of houses dating from about 1300, all lived-in and beautifully preserved. The population is about 3,000 and we have a strong community spirit which is intimately bound up with what we do at Harbeth.

Unusually for such a picturesque location, there is a small yet discrete industrial estate on the edge of the village, bordering open fields, where you will find Harbeth. One of Lindfield's claims to fame is that in the year 1066, King Harold's archers made use of the yew trees of the village on their way to the Battle of Hastings. Nearly 1000 years later the tree is still thriving in what is now a wonderfully peaceful, calming little village.

The factory is the hub of the international Harbeth operation. The main production line sees batches of loudspeakers assembled by hand each day. One day it may be P3s, the next Monitor 30s, and the next the HL5. By limiting manufacture to individual batches, it is possible to maintin much tighter quality controls.

One area of the factory is concerned with testing - every drive unit is measured and pair-matched before assembly. Each crossover board is carefully checked and tested using computer-controlled equipment. Every finished speaker is again tested before shipment to ensure it leaves the factory in perfect condition. Careful packing, in specially-designed boxes, ensures a safe journey to the final customer.

McCraw Allan - Irish Bed Linen and Tea towels

As quality Linen Manufacturers we have a long family tradition reaching back to 1820 when the Company was founded in Lurgan, Northern Ireland by Johnston McCaw. His grandson R.J. McCaw formed a partnership in 1904 with Harry Allan, an old Lurgan College friend, and it was this family alliance which shaped the future development of the company.

Over the years we have extended our range to include other fabrics, new fibre combinations and new product and design ranges to best meet needs and requirements in this modern-day environment but, true to our philosophy, these too are predominantly natural materials and are all manufactured to the same highest quality standards .

In recognition of our continuing commitment to the highest standards we were awarded the Royal Warrant in 1998 as manufacturer of fine Bed Linens to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, an honour we still retain.

Thomas Ferguson - Irish Linen table cloths, hankerchiefs

The Company, bears the name of its founder, Thomas Ferguson and has been offering quality Irish linen to customers since 1854. Today there are still a few weavers weaving plain linens for apparel, but Thomas Ferguson is the only Irish linen damask weaver still remaining in the whole of Ireland weaving traditional Irish damask table linen.
Everyone at Thomas Ferguson's has a passion about our fine linens, and about what we do, and we are proud of our heritage. We have never lost sight of our main strengths which are our craftsmanship, and our culture for quality, which have been developed over generations. The combination of fine raw materials, skilled weavers, advanced loom technology and careful finishing has brought Thomas Ferguson a reputation, and a credibility, of which we are proud. To this day it stands for the best in linen damask and indeed Irish Linen, and both the Ferguson and Irish linen brands, built up over generations, allows the customer to purchase with confidence.

Baird McNutt Irish Linen

Producing high quality Irish Linen since 1912

Baird McNutt Irish Linen is steeped in tradition and knowledge, gained over 100 years of industry experience. We pride ourselves in using traditional Irish methods to produce the highest quality material. Our Irish linen is renowned amongst designers worldwide.
At Baird McNutt we offer you the genuine Irish Linen brand, at an affordable price.
The family business of Baird was established in 1912. The original factory was one of the last built as part of the Irish linen revolution. It was equipped with four hundred Atherton looms, which had been modified from the cotton trade. The factory mainly manufactured piece goods for the handkerchief trade in the USA, where the largest market was at that time.
The company took the decision in the late 1960's to change from handkerchief production to apparel production. At this time Italy was at the forefront of the fashion industry and fabrics were developed for Armani and other leading fashion designers. In Ireland the company acquired the dyeing and finishing works of John Hanna in Kells. Dating from 1798, this company was the world specialist in linen suiting. Baird modernised the company to become the leading finishing works in Ireland, offering the unique Irish linen finish. At the same time the company was offered the design services of the McNutt family in Donegal. The combination of the two families created the brand Baird McNutt Irish linen, which is known throughout the world.
Our Irish linen is a unique brand built on centuries of tradition and skill. In the world of mass market production, it stands out as a beacon of true authenticity.

In addition in 1999 the Company installed a textile coating and laminating range to stick two or more fabrics together including waterproof breathable films. Noble Automotive - Sports cars

Our reputation for producing incredibly quick and fine handling cars was established with the release of the M12 in 2001. This soon became a bench mark for its incredibly pliant ride, reassuring and precise handling and impressive power delivery, receiving almost universal praise from the world's motoring press.

In 2006 Peter Dyson bought the company. An avid, uncompromising and knowledgeable collector of exotic cars and hugely successful business entrepreneur, Peter was also an M12 owner and a huge admirer of both Noble Automotive and the M12's attributes.

Peter had a vision for the company. For some time he had noted that the cars in his collection giving the most enjoyable and rewarding driving experience, tended to be the 'earlier' models, none of which featured computer assistance. The later supercar offerings just did not reward the driver in quite the same way. Could we produce a modern supercar replicating this 'analogue' inspired driving reward and 'purity'? Could we create a supercar that featured the Noble characteristic compliant and efficient chassis and performance (and much more) but also allowed the driver to be back in control?

The Noble M600 was born...

Barber Wilsons & Co Ltd - Luxury Taps and water fittings

Barber Wilsons is the oldest independent, family owned company manufacturing water fittings in the UK with 100 years of experience.

Barber Wilsons & Company Limited manufactures brass water fittings suitable for fitment in all domestic and semi-industrial locations. Our range of products is amongst the widest in the industry. We can and do offer a bespoke manufacturing service to all our customers. This sets Barber Wilsons & Co apart from all other tap manufacturers as we can work with you to achieve the perfect fit for your project. We also offer a bespoke manufacturing service to your exact requirements. A perfect example of this is the work we undertook in the recent refurbishment of Claridges Hotel, London where our fittings were used throughout. One of the hotel wings was constructed at the height of the Art Décoratif (Art Deco) period of the 1930's with many unusual features. Our expertise in reproducing the taps to the original designs along with the refurbishment of existing equipment helped preserve this unique style for many to enjoy.

Our range of self-closing non-concussive taps is made to our own design dating back to the 1920's. The design is so durable that we have seen little point in trying to improve a sound design. The product range, encompassing all forms of tap from pillar valves through to stopcocks, is perfectly suited to applications where water saving coupled with ease of operation is required. Also the foot operated or knee operated stopcocks are essential where the user should not contaminate their hands after washing.

Our range of in-house manufactured ceramic disk headworks, when fitted to our taps and mixers, make the fittings ideally suited for persons with limited ability to operate the valve. Traditionally these are long 6" lever operated, such as used by surgeons in operating theatres to "scrub up". We supply the fittings with a shortened 3" lever that allows operation without need for gripping. Our hospital range of fittings are both durable and stylish withstanding the rigours of very high usage without deterioration.

Our range of self-closing taps and quarter turn ceramic disk taps are most suitable for use by disabled or elderly persons.

Modernisation of the machine shop continues with the introduction of a CNC turning centre, which will work unattended for up to two days if required, and we are constantly looking at new designs and methods of improving quality and volume. Export markets exporting to the USA are increasing and we are the sole surviving independent family run business in our industry.

H.Bronnley & Co Ltd - leading British soap and toiletries company

H.Bronnley & Co Ltd was founded in 1884 by James Bronnley when he was just 19 years old. He had spent a year in Paris studying the art of soap making and was determined to establish himself as a maker of soaps of the highest quality.
His first soap making took place in a humble shed situated in Holborn, Central London. His insistence on producing only the finest quality soaps saw his reputation grow and eventually he relocated to larger premises in Islington, North London. With such a growing reputation came increased orders and he was compelled to move again to a much larger factory in Acton, in those days one of London's outer suburbs and within easy reach of the countryside.
The company remained there until 1949 when a disastrous fire destroyed the factory. A number of temporary premises were used until the company permanently relocated to Brackley in Northamptonshire. The first factory in Brackley was in a former Brewery and this served the company well until the present purpose built factory was built and opened in 1989.
Today, Bronnley remains a leading British soap and toiletries company famous for the abundance of natural almond oil, herb, flower and tree extracts blended into our soaps and toiletries. The magic of soap making demands skill, luxurious materials and careful attention to detail. Essential oils made from plant extracts, super fatting - the addition of avocado oil and triple milling - which assures blended consistency - must be combined to perfection to produce our soaps. Quality above everything is the cornerstone of Bronnley which is why we are "Makers of the best soaps in the world".

GKN PLC - Engineering & Technology

Technology and engineering from GKN is at the heart of the vehicles and aircraft produced by the world's leading automotive, off highway and aerospace manufacturers.

In 1759 Dowlais ironworks opened. From this tiny ironworks on a Welsh hillside, GKN was built into a world leader. Over 250 years, it has changed shape and direction many times, but has always maintained its place at the forefront of engineering.

GKN was there when iron gave birth to the railway boom in the early-1800s, and when steel superseded iron in the 1860s. After the First World War, GKN moved into the 20th century’s greatest new industry – automotive. Later in the century, GKN took to the skies at the forefront of the aerospace industry.

GKN has spread its wings geographically, too. As the balance of economic growth has shifted, from Britain in the 18th and early-19th centuries to America, Western Europe and Japan in the 20th and on to the emerging powers of Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, GKN has moved with it. Today, GKN is a truly global corporate citizen – with a remarkable history.

Métisse Motorcycles

After tasting victory on the track, the Rickmans began designing and building their own motorcycle frames.

Soon their distinctive designs allowed them to expand their business, which proved to be so successful that in 1973 they received the prestigious Queen’s Award to Industry.

In 1980 the Rickman brothers ceased motorcycle manufacture. Around that time the original tooling and the remainder of the stock was sold off.

In 1982 a talented and enthusiastic engineer called Pat French purchased all of the company’s assets and set about making Mk IV framed machines. When the pre-65 classic scramble series started, the Mk IV did not qualify for these events as it was manufactured after the cut-off date. This meant that the Mk III came back into production, fitting neatly into the regulations.

Production continued until the mid-90’s when the economic recession forced a decrease in production due to lack of demand. To maintain its existence Métisse enthusiast Gerry Lisi put forward a partnership proposal to see the company through its difficult time. A new factory was constructed at Carswell, Oxfordshire and the partnership continued up to Pat’s retirement.

Motorcycle manufacture continues to thrive at Carswell, England….

The Morgan Motor Company

Morgan Motor Cars Ltd is located in Malvern Link in Worcestershire, an area full of hilly, twisty roads perfect for testing the steering linkage on an open top sports car. The premises – 10 long purpose-built workshops built on a hill – evokes the image of UK manufacturing as it used to be, in old buildings using traditional crafts, hand-making products of great workmanship and high quality. Today these old skills are needed, but are married with advanced technologies, such as the use of superform aluminium moulded sections – for which Morgan was a car industry pioneer in using panel section moulds for its Aero cars –wood engineering techniques and technical paint formulation. This is a cottage industry that has grown up, from its humble three-wheeled roots to a company that can make over 700 cars a year and exports 65%-70% of product to over 30 countries. The business has changed a lot, particularly over the last 10 years, by implementing lean techniques, more training programmes, developing an inhouse styling team and a better arrangement of the site.

Aston Martin Sports Cars

'Over the past nine decades, Aston Martin has witnessed many changes. The fact that Aston Martin has survived is testament to the strength and resolve of everyone who has ever been involved with the company: customers and employees alike.

We are passionate about the cars we produce and we know this is a passion shared by our enthusiastic owners. All of our sports cars will continue to be hand-built and bespoke but using high technology processes in a very modern environment.

That ethos goes right back to 1914 and the very beginnings of the company. Our founders, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford, believed that a sports car should have a distinctive and individual character. They felt it should be built to the highest standards and be exhilarating to drive and own – many things have changed over the ensuing ninety plus years, but those goals are still very relevant to us today.

A very special culture makes Aston Martin unique. It embraces the tension between creativity and manufacturing discipline; between technical vision and creative enthusiasm – inspirational opposites.

Chapman bags - travel, leisure, business and sporting bags and accessories

John Chapman makes hand crafted bags for travel, leisure, business and sporting activities. Our customers appreciate the contemporary approach we bring to classic English style and quality, as well as our personal attention to customer service.

The company has been established for many years in Cumbria, England. The natural beauty of the surrounding Lake District and Borders has provided much of the inspiration for our bags.

We are one of the last remaining companies to make our bags exclusively in the UK in our own workshops. We also insist on only using materials of the highest quality, wherever possible from natural sources. Why do we do this?

First, we want to ensure the highest possible product quality; around 80% of the direct manufacturing cost of our bags is accounted for by the materials which go into making the bag.

Second, we believe our customers like to know that their bag was made by craftsmen and women without using harmful chemicals and in a responsible environment.

Third, we do not make throw away products. Customers sometimes send us their bags after many years' hard use for us to renew or repair because they have formed a personal bond with that bag. We can do this for them because we make the bags ourselves, instead of sourcing them from overseas.

Brooks England Ltd - Premium Cycle saddles

Over almost a century and a half, Brooks England has grown from a small workshop to a byword in quality craftsmanship. Back in 1865, John Boultbee Brooks left his hometown of Hinckley in Leicestershire with just £20 in his pocket.

He headed for Birmingham, where in 1866 he established a business in horse harnesses and general leather goods in Great Charles Street under the name JB Brooks & Co.In 1878, the unfortunate death of Mr Brooks’ horse led to a stroke of inspiration. Unable to afford another horse, he borrowed a bicycle in order to commute to work. But he found the seat so uncomfortable that he vowed to do something about it. On 28 October 1882, Mr Brooks filed his first saddle patent.

Waddling cyclists everywhere threw their hats in the air and the new product was a roaring success. The company became known and respected for its beautiful leather handcrafted saddles, and soon started to make cycle and motorcycle bags and other accessories.

Traditional techniques in manufacturing leather saddles were passed down from generation to generation of craftsmen as the company grew under the guidance of the Brooks family until 1958.

Inspired by the timeless products designed by our predecessors, we have revived the original slogan ‘Saddles, Bags, Etc’ and introduced a range of cycle bags and other accessories.

Brooks England is steeped in history, a prestige brand that boasts almost 150 years of tradition and expertise. But quality and style never age. So come on in and take a seat.

TUSTING - Luggage and other leather products

TUSTING is a family firm based in the heart of the English countryside, with its roots deep in the English leather and shoe trade. The fifth generation of the family is now at the helm, following a long line of Tustings who have been tanning, grading and trading the world’s finest leathers for over 130 years. Our current workshop lies close to the original tannery founded in 1875 by our great, great, grandfather and is home to our new generation of highly skilled craftsmen. It is perfectly placed to draw on the considerable talents of local leatherworkers, many of whose families also share in this heritage.
This deep and expert knowledge is the secret ingredient that guarantees the selection of the perfect leather for each exquisite piece made in our workshop. In the hands of our talented team of Craftsmen and Women these flawless materials become wonderful products, which combine truly original character with unmistakable quality. Indeed, it is the products themselves that communicate their own value and quality. More than fifteen years after the first briefcases were produced, many are still in everyday use. They look wonderful, having matured beautifully and acquired the mellow patina and distinctive personality of a classic piece of furniture.

Brady Bags and cases

The first Brady brothers were John and Albert who in about 1877 started making leather gun cases in Price Street, Birmingham. Brady moved their manufacturing operations from Halesowen and integrated production with Jeffries Saddlery, using the skills synonymous with the leather industry based in Walsall.

Like all Brady bags the materials and components are of the finest quality, the buckles and components are solid brass, webbing is best quality heavy cotton and the leather used for the bag is an English saddlery leather which is both strong and supple and has a waterproof finish to give maximum protection and years of hard wear. Made in England in the Brady factory by craftsmen and women using original patterns and methods of construction.

Hill Brush Company

The Hill Brush Company was established by Fred and Bill Coward in 1922, after some earlier experiments with brush making by Bill. The business began in a very small building, which has now been demolished, near to the centre of Mere, in Wiltshire, England. It quickly grew, and in 1927 moved to Lordsmead Mill, a disused silk mill, where the waterwheel provided power for the drills that bored holes in the brush stocks. The brushes were all handmade at this time. The factory moved to its present 10 acres (4 hectares) site in Woodlands Road, on the southern side of Mere in 1935/36.
Automatic brush making machines were first introduced in the 1930s, and since then the most up-to-date machinery has been installed. The company's machines are now computer controlled and there is a policy of continually updating its machinery. In recent years very sophisticated production equipment has been installed to manufacture various types of brushes that were not previously made. The company now produces over three million brushes annually and owns over 200 injections moulds. These moulds are for producing other cleaning related products such as squeegees, shovels, buckets, lobby pans, signs, scoops, scrapers, paddles and many more items.

Brompton folding Bikes

All Bromptons are designed and built in our factory in West London, England. Brompton is one of only two major frame manufacturers still based in the UK, and we have been in full production since 1988. The company has come a long way since its initial production facility in a railway arch, and the current site occupies 22,000 ft2 (some 2,000m2).

The company remains in private hands and is now led by Will Butler-Adams, though the Brompton’s inventor, Andrew Ritchie, continues to act as Technical Director. Private ownership has played a big part in making Brompton successful as we have always been able to focus solely on the bike, never the demands of corporate shareholders.

Today, Bromptons are sold in 33 export markets. In the UK, USA, Canada and Ireland, we sell directly to carefully-selected bicycle retailers; in other territories, we sell to distributors who operate their own dealer networks.

Watsonian Squire Ltd - Sidecars

T.F.Watson, a builder with a penchant for inventions, designed a folding sidecar to enable access through the side passages of terraced houses and in 1912 he established the Watsonian Folding Sidecar Co. at Balsall Heath in Birmingham. Since then the company has continued to produce great British sidecars for nearly 100 years, surviving two world wars, economic boom and bust and a major factory fire in 1930.
In 1984 the factory re-located to Blockley in the Cotswolds and five years later Watsonian merged with the young Squire sidecar company, creating a dynamic new business.
UK sidecar ownership increased by 25% during 1993-2003 (from 5,288 – 7,044; source RAC) as leisure riders sought to involve all the family in their pastime and demand has been steady since then. Originally sidecar bodywork was either wicker or aluminium, mounted on an ash wood frame, but today sidecars are manufactured from glass fibre, with a steel frame. Watsonian Squire currently produces approximately 200 units per year, with 60% exported (Japan being one of the largest markets).

    Dualit Domestic Electrical products

Dualit produces a range of kitchen and home appliances which remain firmly rooted in the values Max set out for the company in 1945. It is run by Max’s son, Leslie and is one of a handful of successful, independently-owned British manufacturers. Reliable, well-engineered products remain at the heart of the company and there is an instantly recognisable – and now nostalgically retro – Dualit aesthetic which can be traced back to Max’s first toaster designs in the 1950s.

One constant – an ability to embrace change – has seen the company revolutionise its manufacturing capability without compromising on quality and reliability. The innovative, entrepreneurial spirit that was so much a part of Max, is echoed in Leslie and now his son Alex who sit firmly in the product development driving seat.
The company continues to produce some of it's toasters and electrical products in the UK. Dualit’s classic toasters are a design icon. Built for commercial use, they have since won numerous consumer accolades and come in a range of variants, sizes and colours.

Engineered to produce the best toast in the world, Dualit toasters are still built by hand in the UK, with the assembler’s stamp on every base plate. So whether you’re a toast aficionado at home, or a professional caterer needing to produce 80 toasted sandwiches an hour, we can guarantee that one of our Dualit toasters will be perfect for you.

    Heritage Range Cookers

Established in 1978, Heating South West Ltd has long been regarded as an expert in the range cooker field and, through its HSW Supplies division, designed, developed and began distributing its own Heritage Range Cooker in the 1990s. Now with a workforce of more than 35 people, many of whom have been with the Company for well over 10 years, Heritage enjoys an enviable reputation for quality and reliability.
Each cooker is individually crafted to your specification by a dedicated team of Heritage engineers who take an “old-fashioned” pride in their job. At Heritage you will be treated as a valued customer and not just a postcode.

Based in Cornwall, the home of range cookers, the Heritage draws on the pioneer spirit of the early Cornish Range and the long history of expertise in range cooker manufacture. Yet, the Heritage has an innovative design coupled with traditional build quality to achieve as “green” a cooker as practical.
Like Heritage, many of the best engineering innovations have come from smaller British companies and that is why quality components are sourced from British companies.

Providing optimum economy with controlled performance, the Sandyford is unlike most other range cookers in its ability to run the central heating and hot water systems without having the oven on. This is of course a real benefit in those summer months, as your kitchen will remain cool and your fuel bill noticeably lower. A condensing boiler version is available with a minimum of 95% efficiency; this is exclusive to Sandyford Cookers.

Combining stunning good looks with unrivalled flexibility the Sandyford range of 4 different cookers is capable of coping with the most demanding of households.

Bulldog Tools - High Quality Garden tools

"Bulldog Tools have been made at Clarington Forge, Wigan for 230 years. The factory has the only full time working forge still making spades and forks within the UK, producing over 2000 garden and contractors tools every day.

Bulldog Tools currently employs over 65 people, most of whom are multi-skilled. It is quite common for several generations of the same family to have worked for the company with some employees tracing their family ties back four generations.

Farmers, contractors and professional landscapers stand as a testament to the quality of product upon which their livelihood depends. The skill and craftsmanship that was the key to the company’s success in years gone by, are still maintained and the same forging process is used to this day.

Bulldog Tools uses a unique specification steel which results in exceptionally strong tool heads with the flexibility to absorb all the shock and pressure of hard work, without distorting or breaking. The timber for the handles is all purchased from sustainable sources."

Thomas Flinn & Co - Quality Saw and Hand tool manufacturers

"Our company was started in 1923 by a man named Thomas Flinn. We believe he would not have had origins in Sheffield (due to his surname) but moved here during a time when industry was more prevalent in Sheffield. Frank Ellis (my paternal Grandfather) met Thomas Flinn when he was approximately 14 years old and began an apprenticeship with him. It was not until 1936 that my Grandfather went on to buy the business. From a small work force, we now produce a wide range of hand saws that are shipped world-wide and are held in great esteem by those who use them.

As we head into the 21st century, you will also see that we have now gone ecommerce with "The World of Woodworking" website to ensure that as many customers as possible can gain easy access to our products and also many other great Sheffield tools. Our ideals mean that we feel it is important to fly the British flag when it comes to the tooling industry as it is through this mentality that we have found our great customer base and means we want to provide our customers with only the best products.

Much of our company history now encorporates the history of the Pax and Lynx brands, which both have origins in the 18th century. This means that they are some of the oldest saws still in production today and it seems somewhat sad that some of our products, such as the William Greaves saws came from one of the largest and now diminshed company (of the same name)that was once prolific in Sheffield. We feel it is now a great honour to be able to promote the Pax and Lynx brands as a mark of true Sheffield quality.

The latest addition to our product lines was added in June 2008 in the form of the Roberts & Lee saw company. This was the last other known saw manufacturers in the UK. This is now in operation from our factory."

This gives us a guaranteed quality control through every step of the process of knife making process.

    Cirrus leather jackets

We have been making Flying Jackets, Aviator Jackets, Leather Jackets, Sheepskin Waistcoats and Safari Luggage in our Norfolk, England studio since 1982. We are a family owned business proud of our “Made in England” status. We place great store in tradition and are proud to say that Jo and Donna our two leading tailors have been working at Cirrus for over 17 years.

Our Flying Jackets are made from at least four skins, sourced from the finest tanneries. We stock two skins, distressed authentic brown and slightly more contemporary, smooth black. Both skins are available with 3 types of wool; long original (approx22mm), medium length (approx 17mm) and short curly.

We pay great attention to small details. All Cirrus jackets have heavy-duty brass zips and our buckles are military grade. We cut from original patterns first approved by the Defence Ministry in 1932. Some people refer to these jackets as Irvin’s, but in fact during the war there were many manufacturers. We like to think that today’s true Flying Jacket is a Cirrus.

Cirrus leather jackets and coats are made with the same care and attention to detail. All our products are designed to be no-nonsense, value for money designs that will handed down from one generation to the next.

Because we manufacture in-house, everything is tailor made and we offer a full repair and after sales service. Plus, if you need a jacket fast, we can usually respond.

Cirrus jackets are iconic products, 'Made to Measure' in Norfolk, England

Moto-Lita - Steering Wheels, Aviation Pilot Jackets

Our Thruxton workshop is home to a close-knit family of craftsmen. Modern parlance would insist that we’re a team, but we’re more than that - perhaps because almost everybody here has been working together for over twenty years. I’m Simon Green, founder of Moto-Lita and I’ve always been here (and I’m not showing any signs of retiring).

We’ve all been here so long because we’re passionate about making the best British steering wheels ever. You don’t spend your working life designing and making steering wheels, or more than twenty years varnishing rims or bevelling strips of leather, if you don’t find great pride and satisfaction in your work. Half a century after the first Moto-Lita wheel was made, we all still find joy in holding one of our completed steering wheels - this is probably one of the most important things about us.

The quality of our products has lead to us being original equipment suppliers to the world’s most highly regarded car makers, as well as making Moto-Lita the wheel of choice for thousands of enthusiasts. Because we’re so well known and respected in the UK, many people are surprised to learn that we’ve exported Moto-Lita steering wheels to almost every country in the developed world since the ‘60s. Yet, despite our great success and massive market, we remain loyal to our simple founding objective: we make high-quality steering wheels, by hand.

Charles Rowley & Co - Brass curtain accessories

"We have been supplying brass curtain accessories to the window furnishing industry for over 100 years. The company was originally established in 1830 with a patented version of the 'safety pin' but although we no longer produce this item, there are several products, which have survived.
Our small, skilled and friendly workforce manufactures the majority of the items supplied at our premises in Birmingham, and where possible, using local suppliers of raw materials and superior finishers.
In the last few years Charles Rowley & Co have gained an excellent reputation for supplying and manufacturing specialised brass installation brackets to fit the most awkward and detailed window treatments, requirements for special sized double-cup brass pole brackets are now a common request.
We are able to provide brass poles for bay windows, which are bent on site from either drawings or templates and are available in 19, 25, 38 and 50mm diameters. These together with our brackets, finials, and rings can then be polished and lacquered, Linished (brushed brass effect) Brushed Chromed, Chromed, Nickelled or finished with a bronzing effect (BMA)
In addition to our traditional brass and metal-finish ranges we can now supply a wide range of poles, rings, finials and accessories in wood and resin. These can be supplied in a variety of standard or special finishes.

Charles Rowley & Co have prided themselves on supplying timeless, traditional and sometimes unusual furnishings, stair-rods, moulding hooks and drapery rods to name but a few, all popular items in years gone by and now enjoying a revival. So if you are looking for a company who will go that extra mile then please contact our sales team who will be delighted to answer any of your queries."
