Savoir - Luxury Beds

Savoir Beds go back to 1905 when the No 2 bed became known as ‘The Savoy’. The company was bought by the Savoy Hotel in the 1930’s and remained within the group until 1997 when it regained its independence.
Of course, our beds are still found in some of the world's premier hotels. Our heritage brings two distinct advantages.

Firstly, we have a wealth of experience to draw on which is still being passed on to a new generation of apprentice. Secondly, our long association with the world’s top hotels means that we are unique among bed makers. We service our hotel mattresses and divans, often over a 30 year life span. We have therefore, had the opportunity to fine tune our beds in an extremely demanding environment. We believe the resulting beds are unmatched.

We take great pride in the fact that we still manufacture here in the UK at our west London factory. The Savoir factory is based in Park Royal – adjacent to Willesden Junction station.

Lloyd Loom of Spalding - Furniture

home page image

Lloyd Loom of Spalding the genuine British manufacturer

Lloyd Loom is the name given to a woven fabric and furniture that was invented by Marshall Burns Lloyd nearly 100 years ago. It inspired a generation of furniture designers in the 1920's and 30's, associated with the art-deco period and the classic ocean-going liners of the time and it remains a timeless and classic style of furniture that endures to this day. It became immensely popular in the UK before the London factory was tragically destroyed in the war, spelling an end to large scale production.
Genuine British Lloyd Loom furniture is manufactured from woven twisted paper and wire on a solid beech-wood frame.
Each piece - whether for conservatory, kitchen or restaurant - is individually handmade by craftsmen to your specification and can be in any colour you like.
Our furniture is tremendously strong and, unlike the cane and rattan furniture which inspired the original elegant designs, it will last for a generation.

Titchmarsh & Goodwin - Fine English Furniture

The roots of a Suffolk family businessFor over ninety years Titchmarsh & Goodwin have created beautiful furniture. Yet the roots of this family business go back to the eighteenth century. Around 1770, Samuel Goodwin, a carpenter of Woodbridge, Suffolk, sent his son George to join the workshops of a London cabinetmaker. On his return, with all the prestige of a London apprenticeship, George set himself up to design and create fine furniture for the affluent burghers of East Suffolk. He unconsciously founded a dynasty of cabinet and clock-case makers, working as individual craftsmen in and around Ipswich.

A company born of craftsmanship
But it took more than 130 years for this passion for craftsmanship to develop into something more. In 1920 his descendant Gordon Goodwin and Lawrance Titchmarsh founded the company, that, over ninety years on, still thrives at Trinity Works in Ipswich’s Back Hamlet. It is unique in Britain in employing under one roof some of the country’s most gifted wood turners, carvers, cabinetmakers, and French polishers, not to mention a gilder, a glazier and a lacquer artist.

English Oak
Titchmarsh & Goodwin prefer to use our native oak Quercus Robur which is prized for its strong figuration and varied colours which are caused by minerals present in the heavy East Anglian soils. Here, this oak normally reaches maturity between 100-120 years – much faster than European oak which is grown on slow rotations of up to 300 years – thus, the English oak produces wider annular rings, giving grain of outstanding character.

Charles Barr - Reproduction Furniture

Reproduction Furniture hand made in the UK by British craftsmen

The name of Charles Barr dates back well over 100 years to the latter part of the 19th Century. It was in 1861 that a chair maker by the name of Charles Barr set up a workshop in the parish of Shoreditch in London. With the assistance of his three sons the business flourished but it was the influence of Charles Barr’s youngest son Ernest that changed the company from a chair maker to a company specialising in what would have then been considered to be furniture of the period drawing inspiration from such designers as Robert Adam, George Hepplewhite, Thomas Sheraton and Thomas Chippendale.
With the passing of time the company faded into near obscurity and it was not until the late 1940’s that the name of Charles Barr was resurrected by a London businessman by the name of Wilfred Griffiths. Relying mainly on outside manufacturing sources the company grew and began once again to be successful, but it was the appointment of two key members of staff Bryan and Hutchins, together with the interest of a business entrepreneur by the name of Chris Stockwell that saw the business move to a new level. Two new factory sites were set up at Sandy, Bedfordshire and Wroxham, Norfolk. These production facilities saw the company increase its range of furniture which was now being designed and made in house by the Bryan and Hutchins partnership.
