Bookster Country Clothing

Our experience has shown a high demand for classic, high quality vintage items in interesting cloths and patterns.  Customers appreciate both the quality of workmanship and cloths that are difficult to find these days. Additionally, these styles of clothing are becoming harder to find, as many are no longer produced. Larger sized vintage items in particular are exceedingly rare; this is completely at odds with the needs of many of today's customers.
.
These were all things that started us thinking about creating our own range of traditional British clothing. We decided to begin with predominantly tweeds, in styles and of a quality that would delight anyone seeking the best. These garments are made for you with bespoke options to select, such as individual back and sleeve lengths, waist fittings, working cuff buttons, and other special touches you would normally find only with face to face Bespoke Tailoring.
We then set ourselves specific goals:
  1. The clothing MUST be produced in England, to the highest standards, by craft tailors and carefully overseen by ourselves
  2. We would only use the best British cloths.
  3. We should cater to the widest possible range of sizes, including specific personal requirements such as sizing and fitting.
  4. We would offer made to measure clothing with multiple bespoke options.
  5. Last but not least, the items must be affordable and be suitable for both Town & Country use.

Birmingham Billiards Limited is a British company established in 1936, producing a range of high quality 'hand-made' snooker and pool tables

Birmingham Billiards Limited is a British company established in 1936, producing a range of high quality 'hand-made' snooker tables, pool tables and dual height snooker dining tables at affordable prices within the UK and for World Wide Distribution. This is due to the fact that we only use the best quality kiln-dried hardwoods in the main frame and in the cushion rails. Each leg is hand-turned and double bolted. All our frames are then hand-polished. Then the finest hard-wearing 100% pure West-of-England wool nap cloth is used to cover the slate, which has been bench precision ground. High-speed rubbers in matching sets are fitted to the cushion rails together with bolted solid brass pocket plates covered with brown tanned leather.

Tiflex Limited of Liskeard, Cornwall - Oxbridge Cricket Balls

From its earliest beginnings, in sheds behind a cobbler’s cottage, the cricket ball industry has remained very bohemian.  Over the years it has become clear that the manufacture of the cricket ball poses problems on a scale and magnitude well beyond the capabilities of this cottage industry.  Cricket balls have been plagued by persistent problems including increasing softness, loss of shape during play and lack of visibility during periods of low light.
However the cricket ball industry is now benefiting from a major industrial manufacturer bringing its wide experience of development and innovation into this market.
We (Tiflex Limited of Liskeard, Cornwall, a member of large, Woking based, James Walker Group of companies) now own Oxbridge Cricket Balls, formerly of Ringwood, Hampshire.

We are no strangers to quality being one of the first companies to attain ISO 9001 certification and our more advanced technology balls have been awarded the British Standards Kite Mark.
We are experts in the field of impact and vibration absorbing compounds, particularly where recovery of the compound to its pre-impact state is a key requirement. Many of the products we manufacture are important to our everyday lives, as they are used in such situations for absorbing vibrations in buildings caused by underground railways, in rail tracks caused by trains and in factories caused by machinery to name but a few.
We have brought our huge technological experience of thermoplastics, elastomers, plus synthetic and natural rubbers to challenge the cricket ball industry.

KIPPAX WILLOW LTD - finest hand crafted cricket bats

KIPPAX WILLOW LTD has over 25 years experience of making the finest hand crafted cricket bats through traditional methods using only the finest of their own willow trees.
Kippax Willow Ltd has over 25 years experience of making the finest hand crafted cricket bats through traditional methods using only the finest of their own willow trees. From planting of willow sets accross the UK and maintaining trees by de-nibbing (pruning off branches) over a period of at least 15 years each tree has been nurtured through to felling.
Once felled the tree is cut into rounds and the ‘splitting out’ process begins. This involves driving wedges into the round to split it into raw clefts. Following a five cut process on the saws the clefts are then waxed at each end to prevent splitting. Stacked in the drying rooms the natural drying process begins. After six months or until the clefts have dried to the required moisture level the process of making the cricket bat begins.
Each cleft has to be cut to size on the saws, then pressed using Kippax Willow's unique pressing technique at four different pressures in both traditional and bow styles. The handle is then fitted, shoulders and toe are cut and then the bat is hand drawn traditionally with drawknives and spokeshaves by the master bat maker, Matthew Doidge.
Rough and smooth sanding takes the bat near to completion. The handle is then traditionally strung, a rubber grip applied and then the final step of a wax finish to ensure that the Kippax bat supplied to the customer is the finest traditionally hand made cricket bat available.

In the Hardy Bros. category, we have our reels that are made in England. The range includes the Perfect. First patented in 1891, the current reel is based on the 1896 model - with, of course, one or two minor alterations to bring it into the twenty‑first century, and of course still made in England.

Pooley Swords

In August 2005, the very distinguished sword makers Wilkinson Sword, who had been established for over two hundred years, ceased trading as sword makers.  Robert Pooley, who had been commissioning swords from Wilkinsons for over forty years, purchased from Wilkinsons their drawings, product records, spares and much of their tooling, including both heavy and light machinery.  A Ryder Mechanical Hammer, which was made at the end of the 1800’s, was also amongst the machinery purchased.
Pooley Sword was formed in November 2005 and the heavy machinery was despatched to India for the forging of blades.  India was, for hundreds of years, renowned throughout the world as the finest of sword makers.  Indeed, Wellington’s famous, “Mameluke Sword” was made in India and to this day this type of sword is a regulation pattern for all General Officers.
All Pooley Swords are forged from carbon steel and tested to the highest standards in the traditional way as laid down by Henry Wilkinson.  The finished sword is finally etched and finished in England to the same fine standards expected by the British and Commonwealth Armed Forces.  Pooley Sword is now established as the leading supplier of swords to the British Armed Forces and the MOD as well as many Commonwealth and Overseas Defence Forces.

Brady Bags and cases

The first Brady brothers were John and Albert who in about 1877 started making leather gun cases in Price Street, Birmingham. Brady moved their manufacturing operations from Halesowen and integrated production with Jeffries Saddlery, using the skills synonymous with the leather industry based in Walsall.

Like all Brady bags the materials and components are of the finest quality, the buckles and components are solid brass, webbing is best quality heavy cotton and the leather used for the bag is an English saddlery leather which is both strong and supple and has a waterproof finish to give maximum protection and years of hard wear. Made in England in the Brady factory by craftsmen and women using original patterns and methods of construction.
