Bookster Country Clothing

Our experience has shown a high demand for classic, high quality vintage items in interesting cloths and patterns.  Customers appreciate both the quality of workmanship and cloths that are difficult to find these days. Additionally, these styles of clothing are becoming harder to find, as many are no longer produced. Larger sized vintage items in particular are exceedingly rare; this is completely at odds with the needs of many of today's customers.
.
These were all things that started us thinking about creating our own range of traditional British clothing. We decided to begin with predominantly tweeds, in styles and of a quality that would delight anyone seeking the best. These garments are made for you with bespoke options to select, such as individual back and sleeve lengths, waist fittings, working cuff buttons, and other special touches you would normally find only with face to face Bespoke Tailoring.
We then set ourselves specific goals:
  1. The clothing MUST be produced in England, to the highest standards, by craft tailors and carefully overseen by ourselves
  2. We would only use the best British cloths.
  3. We should cater to the widest possible range of sizes, including specific personal requirements such as sizing and fitting.
  4. We would offer made to measure clothing with multiple bespoke options.
  5. Last but not least, the items must be affordable and be suitable for both Town & Country use.

Wathen Gardiner - British made clothing

Olive corduroy trousers are hard wearing and continue to look good throughout their lifetime. Made from 'superior' Lancashire cord that has proven it's qualities time and again to our customers over the years.

The History of Wathen Gardiner

The foundations of the company were laid back in 1806 by Mr Gardiner, who by 1830 had built up a thriving business exporting ready made clothing to the West Indies, packed in Puncheons (rum barrels) which were then returned to this country filled with Jamaica rum. In 1860 his descendant was joined by Sir Charles Wathen, a wool merchant with a fearsome reputation for quality. On his wool-buying visits to Australia Sir Charles would, in turn, sell his Bristol made garments which were highly prized and in great demand.
We maintain their very high standards of quality -as we hope you will discover for yourself.

Quail - quality handmade clothing

Quail has been making quality handmade clothing in England since 2006. We hunt down organic and ethical textiles and actually became fabric importers at the same time as being a clothing manufacturer.
Quail is passionate about revitalising artisan shirt making in England. As a British eco-ethical clothing label, we specialise in certified fair trade and organic cotton from India. We also offer shirts made from ‘Shweshwe’, a unique ethical fabric from South Africa where the cotton farming and fabric production is 45% owned by the workers themselves.

Frank & Faith - Socially conscious clothing

Frank & Faith is a Dorset based, socially conscious clothing label launched in Autumn 2006 by fashion designer and buyer, "Faith", and her Chartered Accountant husband, "Frank". Our founding philosophy is that our clothes look beautiful and fashionable but are manufactured in an ethical and sustainable way.
Frank & Faith clothes will always use organic, recycled or sustainable yarns and fabrics, be made ethically, and with equal importance – will always be fashionable.
After working for many years for some of the biggest high street fashion retailers “Faith” decided there must be a more ethical and socially beneficial way of producing and manufacturing affordable fashion “savvy” clothing.
Our aim is to produce clothing ethically by manufacturing in Britain. The usage of our "Made in Britain" label further promotes locally produced goods and industries. This enables us to be sure our garments are made fairly, as all manufacturing falls under UK labour laws (including the minimum wage), EU labour directives and International Labour Organization conventions. In addition we can easily visit our factories to assess working conditions on a regular basis. This protects the Frank & Faith brand from “Sweat Shop” manufacturing.
Frank & Faith support and nurture small factories and businesses in Britain. These are often in areas of deprived communities with high unemployment. Our aim is to retain specialist skills fast disappearing in the British Isles. This also provides work for people who have trained to this skill set in the UK. A further benefit is the reduced environmental cost of transporting raw materials and clothing around the world. Our garments have significantly less “clothes miles” than many garments manufactured in the Far East.

Manchester Weathercoat Company - traditional rainwear

The Manchester Weathercoat Company was originally formed in 1978 to provide a manufacturing service to high quality brands such as Burberry, Mulberry, Daks and Aquascutum. From our purpose built factory in Manchester, Lancashire, once the heart of the Industrial Revolution for traditional rainwear, we produce traditional raincoats for both ladies and gents. The production of our trench coat has over 120 separate manufacturing operations to produce the finished article; every single seam is pressed immediately after sewing and seamstresses hand sew the collar making this undoubtedly one of the most labour intensive coats produced today. For many years only a privileged few have enjoyed the exclusive Manchester Weathercoat brand with its distinctive check lining using over 30 years experience from manufacturing at the top end of the market. Today, utilising the power of the Internet, we are proud to be able to bring you a high quality traditional trench coat unrivelled for value and quality!
